For original
member Mark Reale, keeping RIOT together has always been his main focus,
continuing to bring music to their extremely loyal fans. Riot originated in the
basement of Mark Reale's home in
Brooklyn NY in the summer of 1976. By 1977 they had recorded their first album "Rock
City" for New York's Fire sign Records who managed to obtain various
licensing deals throughout the world.
Capitol Records quickly signed Riot, who soon entered the studio to record
"Narita" which would be released in 1979. It was in 1981, that Riot
released on Elektra Records what is considered by most
fans to be the band's most definitive album, "Fire Down Under". In 1982
Rhett Forrester joined the Band and recorded three successful albums with RIOT
that included "Restless Breed", "Riot Live"
and "Born In America". How ever plagued with managerial and record company
woes, RIOT eventually disbanded.
Then in 1988 RIOT returned with a new line up featuring Tony Moore, Mark Reale, Don Van
Stavern, Mike Flyntz and Bobby Jarzombek. RIOT was on CBS Records and everything was
looking good forthe band including a Japan tour in 1989 that brought RIOT to new
heights and with the album "Privilege of Power" released in 1990 and a
US tour RIOT was back!! But in the summer of 1990 right before Riot was gearing
up for a second Japan tour Don Van Stavern left the band, Bobby had played with
bass player Pete Perez in San Antonio, Texas and told Mark that he would be great for
the band. Pete got the biggest gig of his life, if he only knew that there were
about 3,500 fans in each
city waiting for RIOT to play in Japan.
Changes for RIOT in 1993 meant the introduction of vocalist Mike Dimeo and with the
release of "Night Breaker" in 1994 Dimeo proved he had what it takes
to be a powerful front man. Through the years with the release of "Brethren
of the Long House" in 1996 and "Inishmore" in 1998 and a
live recording and release of "Shine On" in 98 and "Sons of
Society" in 1999, Dimeo and the band
continue to leave their loyal fans waiting with anticipation for the next album.Late
in 1999 Bobby Jarzombek got the word that Rob Halford needed a drummer for his new
band and so Bobby flew up to LA and audition for Rob. Well when he saw Bobby he
knew that he was the
drummer he was looking for, so Bobby left the band to pursue his career in drumming.
Now it was time for Riot to find a rock solid drummer for the new album "Through The
Storm", Mark had gotten word that Bobby Rondinelli from Blue Oyster Cult
was interested in recording the new album, Mark was very happy and asked Bobby
to help with the new album. RIOT also serves up a stunning version of UFO's
"Only You Can Rock Me" and an instrumental version of The Beatles'
"Here Comes The Sun". With the bands new album "Through The
Storm" soon to be released on both EMI Japan and Metal Blade USA and Europe
in 2002 it seems that RIOT is here to stay for a very long time.
